Abstract

The editorial presents the importance of Open Science, addressing its impact on the democratization of knowledge and technological production. In the 1990s, the "journal crisis" was caused by the high cost of subscriptions and the difficulty of libraries accessing content, leading to free access to scientific publications. Thus, Open Science emerged to promote transparency by sharing data, methods, and results, allowing the review and reproduction of studies, and facilitating collaboration between researchers from different areas. By removing access barriers, Open Science will enable researchers from developing countries to access data and publications, expanding the talent base and reducing research costs. In this way, Open Science increases the social impact of scientific discoveries, making them accessible to the public and benefiting NGOs, policymakers, and citizens. It also contributes to continuous learning and education.
