The aim of this study is to understand the inefficiency of solid waste management in the Integrated Public Education Centres (CIEPs) of the public high school network of the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Education (SEEDUC-RJ), in order to analyse the organizational factors that limit the promotion of entrepreneurial actions for sustainability. The main concepts and theories underpinning the report are presented, highlighting theories on sustainability, waste management and social entrepreneurship, providing a solid basis for understanding the context of the application. The application method adopted for this study comprises a qualitative approach, with participants including managers and educators from the CIEPs, as well as direct observations carried out in the schools. Data was collected through document analysis of the Pedagogical Political Projects (PPP), literature review and participant observation. The results obtained revealed the presence of organizational barriers, such as the lack of training for those involved and the lack of resources, which hinder the implementation of effective sustainable practices. The practical implications of this study are discussed, providing insights into how to overcome these obstacles and promote sustainable entrepreneurial actions in public schools. These implications can cover school management, public policies on education and sustainability, and pedagogical practices. This study contributes to the literature by proposing practical guidelines for waste management in CIEPs, focusing on sustainable solutions that involve the school community. The relevance and value of this research is evidenced by its potential to influence the implementation of educational and environmental policies, contributing to the education of students who are aware of and committed to sustainability.
